About Me
My name is Braxton Moore I’m an Illustrator and Character Designer failing upwards very slowly. I’m also the creator of Broken Matter.
Exactly? I’m not too sure yet. It really started as a name I took on as a social media artist (to sound cool), but now days it’s starting to feel a little different. It feels more like brand than a name. I’m also looking into making it a coalition of artists, instead of just myself. Kind of like Babish and his expanse.
The name itself was just simply taking my own initials and having them stand for something bigger than myself.
I’m an Artist… I think. Or am I a Graphic Designer? Nah, I’m just an Illustrator. Like most others, That’s how it’s been from a young age. Drawing things and people and applying stories to them.
My Mom was a gallery artist and my Dad was a tattoo artist. So, I just fell into it naturally. I dreamed about drawing for a living. Being an animator or comicbook creator. I was onboard for that journey no matter what. But it turns out that you need money and schooling for an art career. Who knew?
Sometime, after a sidequest in journalism (because, I’m also a big fan of Hunter S. Thompson), I attempted one of those art classes that you’d need to prove you can actually draw crap. But, they wouldn’t cover any of the costs for the materials that they deemed a requirement (about $300), and I said F**k that. Because, I didn’t have that money. So I did what any artist at that stage would do: believed, wholeheartedly, in myself. That was F**k up number 1.
So did I start a Twitter? or Instagram? Nope! BEcause those things “weren’t for art” to me. So, I made a Tumblr. And I remained dumb about this until about 2016, when I finally made myself an Instagram. Oh, and there was a couple of years in there where I allowed myself to riddle with OCD, and refused to pick up a pen or pencil. Yep, that happened. It’s actually still going on today. But I’m working on it.
And from then on, I’ve been doing conventions, freelancing work with a few game companies and comic creators. it’s been nice. which is why I think I’ll stay here for a while.
I do have a fanart section in the Gallery, but I tend to stay away from doing a whole lot of it. Not sure what the mental block is there, but I have found it more difficult to be happy with my renditions of somebody else’s lines.
If you’d like to see a certain fanart from me, though, drop a line! I’ll do my best to fulfill the idea, and make sure you get credit for the idea.
Yes! Prices vary (of course), depending on the subject and the amount of time projected to finish. You can email me at BMo@BrokenMatter.com or DM on Instagram.
I might update this area later with some hardwired prices soon. So, check back later if your more comfortable with that kind of arrangement.
Quick answer: because it’s fun. Girls are so much more varied than men, movement of lines is more fluid, and it feels correct to me.
Longer answer: There was already quite the appreciation for the female form running through my early life. I loved heavy metal magazine and my Dungeons and Dragons books (original prints, thank you) and between those pages, I found my favorite character: the badass female in a post apocalyptic world.
Then came Chris Sanders, and my badass girl became rounder, softer, and fluid. I haven’t been able to stop myself from drawing these ladies since.
Yes! of course I have. I love drawing monsters! but I do tend to keep those to myself. But I’ll soon have more of them up here.
I’ve also got a few comics I’m planning on releasing soon, so keep an eye out for those.
I do! Nothing there, just yet, though. But please feel free to Subscribe, so you can be one of the firsts to watch and comment (or trash me. It’s all fun to read).
